This is a competent, 5 tube superheterodyne
in a nice cabinet that tunes both broadcast and police bands.
Reducing costs by reducing tube count without sacrificing performance can be accomplished by using new technology. This set uses the 6B5 dual triode which was introduced in 1935. Essentially 2 tubes in 1, the 6B5 is used as an two stage audio amplifier allowing higher gain without an additional tube.
1935 saw the “airplane dials” (circular dials with double pointers) start replacing the older “window” dials.
